UKABIF and Case Management Cymru partnership continues in 2024 to drive agenda of the ‘Amser am Newid’ Cymru special interest group in Wales
Published in 2021, the ‘Amser am Newid’ report examines the specific demographics, geography and service provision of those living with acquired brain injury (ABI) in Wales. Following its publication, the subsequent focus of the Amser am Newid – Time for Change group has been to identify and prioritise key recommendations outlined in the report. This special interest group currently receives funding from Case Management Cymru (CMC) which supports an intern role to contribute to projects aligned with its objectives. Operating since 2016, CMC provides specialist person centred case management to adults and children with acquired brain injury across the South and West Wales area.
Some of the work undertaken by the core members of Amser am Newid -Time for Change group over the last 18-months, made possible through funding from CMC includes carrying out a survey exploring educators’ understanding of childhood acquired brain injury across the UK. This research has been conducted in partnership with N-ABLES, UKABIF’s special interest group in Education. Additionally, the funding has supported the publication of a bilingual version of the Return to Education guidance specific to Wales which aligns with the new Curriculum for Wales. Due to their continued commitment, the ‘Amser am Newid – Time for Change’ group is now able to deliver their 2024 strategy.
Julie Smith, CMC Operations Director and group member says, ‘I am delighted Case Management Cymru is continuing to partner with UKABIF to drive forward the ‘Amser am Newid-Time for Change’ strategy for 2024. Building on the progress already made and drawing attention to the impact of brain injury in the education and health sectors are crucial to improving outcomes for ABI survivors and their families.’
