Case Manager, Ben Farnham, is now a committee member for the Institute of Registered Case Managers

The Institute of Registered Case Managers has welcomed our very own Ben Farnham, as their New Quality Assurance Committee Member.

Ben has been working with Case Management Cymru now for a number of years and brought with him an innovative approach built from his wealth of experience and a different perspective gained from his work as a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. He has an exceptional understanding of the psychological needs of clients, and we are incredibly proud to have him as part of the CMC team.

Ben has over 15 years’ experience working as a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, working across a wide area of statutory services. Prior to taking on a case management role, he gained a wide range of experience within mental health rehabilitation, complex case management, commissioning, and quality assurance and improvement service.

Ben’s previous experience as a case manager in the Cardiff NHS Trust Commissioning Team, where he had overall responsibility for the service user experience from referral to discharge, including individual needs assessment, funding applications, the commissioning and implementation of care packages. This has fed very nicely into his work as an independent Case Manager. Ben also managed complaints, critical incidents, sentinel events and safeguarding, on behalf of the UHB and Local Authority.

Ben has experience in working within the quality and assurance improvement service. Part of his role was to Clinically audit providers of collaboratively commissioned Mental Health & Learning Disabilities services under the National Framework Agreements. Provide specialist advice regarding the National Framework Agreement to UHBs and Independent Sector providers, challenge providers on poor performance and quality of care.

Ben now works as an independent Case Manager with a variety of client groups following catastrophic injuries. He has a particular interest in acquired brain injury, clients suffering psychological difficulties and risk assessment. Ben continues to develop his wide knowledge on the litigation process, regulated services and overall service development.

Importantly, he is highly motivated, organised and flexible.  Ben is comfortable working with complex and challenging clients and is skilled at developing and monitoring individualised, recovery focused care plans that are goal orientated. He works creatively with clients, taking a person-centred approach which allows them to reach their full potential.

He enjoys and has experience of coordinating and leading multi-disciplinary teams. Ben has an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the roles and functions of other professionals and teams within mental health services, across the private, public and third sectors.

“I am excited to work with colleagues from around the UK to develop ways to monitor and evaluate the impact of case management, and to identify the gaps and areas for improvement which will positively affect outcomes and standards of care”.
