Julie Smith

Clinical Director and Responsible Individual

Vicky Richards

When Vicky took early retirement from her NHS role as clinical lead of the Community Brain Injury Team, Rookwood Hospital in 2015, she was keen to establish a case management company built around the distinct needs of the people of south Wales; the birth of Case Management Cymru Ltd followed.

‘A Case Manager has to be something of a chameleon; able to adapt to their surroundings. Our locally based case managers have the advantage of understanding the diverse communities in south Wales. They can respond swiftly when necessary and maintain regular contact without time and money being absorbed by excess travel.’

Over the 20 years that she has worked in Neuropsychiatry and CBIT, Vicky has become adept at working with the most challenging of individuals and their families. She takes a pragmatic and flexible approach to case management; always knowing where the client needs to be, but able to recognise when the route needs to be adjusted to suit the client.

Vicky continues as a case manager in her own right, but additionally trains, supervises and mentors CMC’s Case Managers, ensuring standards are maintained. She has handpicked Case Managers who, along with the right experience and qualifications, she knows have all the requisite skills i.e. excellent team worker, ability to build and maintain relationships, flexible and organised.

Vicky has worked alongside Julie and Headway Cardiff for many years. In 2013 the relationship was formalised when she became a Trustee, a role she relishes.

Operations Director and Registered Manager

Julie Smith

Following 12 years in the management and development of Headway Cardiff, Julie understands the impact of serious injury individuals and their families, along with the demands of running a health and social care service.

She brings this knowledge to her role at CMC, where it is fundamental to the development of the team and services. She is responsible for ensuring the provision of quality case management and care planning services, meeting both the requirements of Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) and the needs of the clients.

‘I am excited about building a company that is 100% professional, yet retains the feel of a small company, where people matter and is still flexible enough to respond quickly to ever changing demands’

Julie has a dual role as Operations Director and as one of the two Registered Managers at CMC. She has Level 5 Leadership for Health and Social Care Services in both Adult and Children and Young People management.

Julie and her team, are responsible for providing the necessary administrative and HR support to the Case Managers and care teams, priding themselves on being responsive and flexible.
